Hi could please write one where the reader is bengali and celebrates Durga Puja with Lando in india ( ollie or kimi works too but I'm not sure if you write for them)?
I did a ‘spin the wheel’ and got Ollie.
Puja Vibes
Ollie was as white as white gets and his girlfriend was the embodiment of the Bengali culture prancing around. She had helped Oliver expand his horizon; taught him new experiences and delicious food. She will argue, that there’s no dessert like Bengali dessert.
So, when it was time for Y/N to return home for Durga Puja, Ollie would be joining her too since he had no races or prior commitments.
They hadn’t dated for long but Ollie had showered her with gifts on Christmas and taught her all his family traditions. Y/N just wanted to do the same for him.
At the airport, they landed together with Ollie in tow who was enamoured by the hustle and bustle of the city. He saw cows crossing the road like it was another Tuesday and no one batted an eye. Y/N pointed out all the building explaining the significance and the reason behind their construction during the colonial era on the way to her home.
At home, preparations for Durga Puja were in full swing. Y/N’s uncle and aunt had decorated their house ornately. Oliver greeted everyone.
The festivities would start the next day. Everyone was up bright and early for the invocation (bodhon) Oliver was mesmerised by the shining lights and the bright colours and the beautiful way Goddess Durga was dressed.
The main event was Maha Ashtami which Y/N’s father had great pleasure in explaining to Oliver. Oliver was like a kid in a candy store; eyes wide open and mesmerised by the events unfolding in front of him.
You would find the poor boy following Y/N around like a lost puppy. It was adorable watching him hold onto her saree palo as she walked in front of him. “Lemme hold your hand” Ollie whined. “Everyone is here for the festival. What will the elder’s think?” Y/N reasoned. In Indian culture, blatant show of affection was frowned upon especially in the older generations, the younger ones couldn’t care less. That’s why Ollie was walking around holding her palo.
They were stood next to each other while Y/N’s mother made the preparations for Maha Ashtami. “Your dress looks so beautiful. Red truly is your colour” Ollie said. “Thank you babe” she said. “How did you do this?” He asked playing with the folds. “My mum helped. I’m still pretty bad at tying a saree” she said. “Is that what it’s called? A saree” he said enunciating each word. “Yup, it’s an Indian traditional wear but everyone wraps the cloth around them differently, depending on the region of the country” she explained. His mouth formed an O in understanding.
They finished up the celebration with all the rituals being done and Oliver asking way too many questions each step of the way.
On the last day after Vijaya Dashami, after the immersion in the water everyone returned back home, exhausted by the events of the past days when Y/N’s cousin showed her a video; actually a few.
One video, had Ollie following her around like a lost puppy. The other one was of him holding her palo so as to not get lost. And the last one was straight out of a Shah Rukh Khan movie where Ollie’s watch had gotten stuck in her palo and he tried to free himself while actively trying to follow her and not let her know that he might fray her outfit. Eventually, he did free himself but his eyes never left her as he walked behind her.
She showed the video to Ollie and the Shah Rukh Khan scene from Om Shanti Om. Ollie was seen laughing, “didn’t know I would be getting my Bollywood moment this year during Puja” she said. “I’m happy I could be of service, m’lady” he said tipping his imaginary hat. “I would still have loved if it was Shah Rukh Khan” she teased. “Wow! I can’t believe this.” He acted hurt with his hand on his chest. “You are unbelievable.” She muttered pressing her lips on his cheeks. “Don’t try to bribe me with kisses” he huffed. “I’m not. I love you my cute little bear” she cooed. “I’m not cute” he huffed again. “Sure, my rasgulla” she laughed pinching his cheeks. “I like that dessert. Can I have some more?” He replied lost in thought. “I’m sure my mother will find great pleasure in feeding you” she said laughing. “Let’s go” she said pulling him along. “I love you Y/N.” Ollie called out while being dragged along. “I love you too” she replied turning to look at him.
Y/N’s family cooed at them, young love
Hope you liked it! I tried my best

'bunny and her butch' - meeting sevika.
the soft rush of waves crashing against the mushy bed of sand burrowing the rocks and pebbles, salty water kisses the shore... you're awaken by your covers being ripped off of your soft body, lace camisole lifted by the smooth skin of your thigh. you'd gone to the dive bar the previous night, hammered from the endless barrage of drinks, cheap champagne and the 'special' they had on sale, you could taste that it was only grape juice with a dash of whiskey- your head spun like a neverendingly rocking rowboat. your bonnet had long abandoned your head, the measly bow which had been tied before, draped lazily over the soft curve of your shoulder. the satin material acting as a wakeup call, once the smooth, warmed material left the curve of your shoulder, you were rudely reminded of the wave of cold air seeping through the open window. your eagerness shot through like a bullet, today you'd meet sevika, she worked as a lawyer for a firm she left- sevika was an oldest daughter, her youngest (and only sibling) shivani worked as a vet, sevika included that in her bio as a fun fact. you'd been talking with sev, or 'sevi' or 'vika' for a while now, long enough to know about how she used to have waist length hair and only cut it off because she felt an intense need for change. also it was too girlish for her, she admired the fact that their were butches with long hair who could rock it without playing into societies stereotypical expectations. sevika had pictures of herself with her dog, her mother on christmas and a few others with random people she hadn't yet introduced to you. after a hot shower, blasting music and drinking hot cocoa, you find yourself checking your reflection in the full-body mirror by the front door, wearing round-toe ballet flats, a black dress with a lace hem, a khaki trenchcoat and a white bow, snapping a quick picture before ushering out of the door, glossy lips quivering with excitement. sevika waited outside of the cafe. wearing khaki pants (both had unintentionally matched and the fact made my heart lurch and a dark red jumper over a striped polo tee. it was likely she'd just returned from work. she holds her hand out for you, the cotton wool of your jacket caught onto the wrinkles of her fingers. sevika smiles, taking a bite from the thick chicken burger she'd ordered, the crisp meat a pearly white inside, traces of spicy mayo dripping back onto her plate, evidence of a good meal, she hummed in content. words were left unsaid, all that was needed was a good meal and eye contact, she'd already devoted herself to you. "so, whereabouts are you from, sev?" you asked, her eyes flickering up to meet you as she swallowed down the rest of her food. "My mother is Indian, as was my father—however //his// father was also from Barbados." she states, hell, she'd almost gone light-headed at the sight of you simply listening to her, nodding your head, pouting your soft lips in thought, and those small 'mm's' you'd let slip out. You twirled around the tomato pasta in your bowl, listening to the slimy slosh of the sauce mixing with the buttery noodles. after a lot of talking and much more eating, you felt stuffed, sevika insisted on paying the bill fully, she couldn't help it- she saw it as a chivalrous act, there was nothing she loved more than acts of service! on the way out her fingers laced between yours, swinging lightly as you made your way to her car. leaving a lingering kiss on your hand after stopping her car outside of your house, she watches your dress flutter in the wind, warmth brews inside of her chest. It was a fulfilling day, perhaps even more filling than the chicken burger she'd had earlier, the chicken burger you ended up splitting because the pasta you ordered had too many onions. sevika rests her head on the wheel, the scent of your sweet vanilla spray still lingers on the seat of her car, burying itself within the fabric… and within her mind too.

“The best things / happen while you’re dancing”
Just a little Ari-Roger piece while we had our Christmas tradition of watching White Christmas (and Muppet’s Christmas Carol)!
I didn’t want to copy-paste Ari’s outfit, so her hair is in a Khopa (traditional Bengali hair bun), with clay earrings, and shoes inspired by juttis (Pakistani-Indian shoes), as well as a few alterations to the dress.

Halloween Costumes
COUPLE COSTUMES! And I am begging, BEGGING, if there are any artists who feel inspired and want to draw the boys in these costumes... I would cry. Literally cry. Here's what's been floating around in my head for what y'all would wear on Halloween night.
Xavier:
“What about this one?” Xavier stops in front of a Velma costume and points to it.
“Would you be a Shaggy or a Scooby?” You laugh as you catch up to him. The costume store is extra busy and you nearly lost sight of him.
“Hmm… I don’t know… I guess either could work.” You grab his hand so you won’t get separated again. You look at the Scooby costume and giggle at the thought of Xavier in face paint and dog ears. There’s also a Scooby onesie hanging up nearby and it hits you.
“I have a better idea.” You pull Xavier’s arm and drag him to the pajama section.
When Halloween night finally rolls around, it certainly doesn’t play out like you expected.
“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the party?” Xavier asks for the 10th time. His foot is propped up on the coffee table, his arms crossed.
Ever since he got injured just 2 days before Halloween he’s been urging you to go without him. He’s an amazing hunter, but got taken out by a set of stairs. You still remember finding him curled up at the bottom of the stairs in your apartment building. He was trying to act like it was no big deal, but when he couldn’t stand up, you knew it was serious. You ruffle his hair as you pass by the couch.
“No, silly. I want to spend Halloween with you. Now come on, let me help you get in your costume.”
You help him hobble to the bedroom and change into his How to Train Your Dragon onesie. You’ll surely be calling him Toothless all night. You put on your Light Fury onesie and pull up the hood, it’s warm and cozy, perfect for the chilly October evening. You’re helping Xavier get settled on the couch when the doorbell rings. You rush to answer and collect your takeout order - which is more food than you and Xavier need.
“What’s this?” Xavier raises a brow at the containers you pull from the large bag and set on the coffee table.
“I thought we’d finally try the food from the new Indian restaurant down the road. I didn’t know what we’d like, so I got one of everything.” Xavier chuckles and leans forward to inspect the food.
Chicken curry, goat curry, butter chicken, mutton curry, masala vadai, white rice, coconut rice, lemon rice, naan, paal kozhukattai, hariyali chicken and two large chai teas. Xavier stares at you, then at the food, then back at you. You giggle and pass the remote to Xavier.
“You pick the movie.”
Xavier flips through the movies and picks Nightmare Before Christmas. You both settle in for a cozy night together. With good food, good films and the best company.
“Happy Halloween, my love.” Xavier whispers to you as he pulls the blanket over your shoulder. Your eyes half closed as you slowly slip into a food coma. You look up at him with the biggest smile. You love it when he gets all lovey dovey. He leans over and kisses you sweetly.
“It’s the best Halloween I’ve ever had, even with a broken foot. Thank you.”
Rafayel:
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN I DIDN’T HAVE TO SHAVE MY EYEBROWS OFF?”
You can barely hear Rafayel’s screams over your own laughter. He’s standing before you in full costume, hair slicked back, ready to add the final touches. He was waiting for you to show up and help with his hair. When he opened the door to his home, you stared at him for a full minute before bursting into a fit of giggles.
“I told you - baHAA- I told you I could help you with your makeup! Raaaf what did you dooooo?!?”
He has a hand clasped over his forehead and paces back and forth in his living room. The rest of his costume is perfect, a simple crisp white dress shirt unbuttoned to the naval, an undone black bow-tie, fitted black pants and dress shoes. He had covered his hands and torso with white paint and meticulously drawn on the various tattoos from the picture you sent.
“I thought I had to! Stop laughing!!” His whines are adorable and you feel bad for not being able to control your giggle.
“Okay okay okay, listen, let’s finish your makeup and go to the party. We’ll stop by the store on the way home and get some makeup and I’ll show you how to draw on some natural looking brows.”
Rafayel sinks into his couch in defeat. He throws his head back and crosses his arms. He’s in full on pout mode. You focus on distracting him so he doesn’t sulk the whole evening. You straddle him on the couch and grab the makeup to help him finish getting ready. He stares at you, maintaining his best pout, but you can tell he’s happy you’re sitting on top of him, especially in your costume.
The simple baseball tee with “Daddy’s Lil Monster” printed across the chest, tiny red and blue shorts and fishnet tights, platform sneakers and you’ve repurposed your holster from work to hold fake guns. The most expensive part of your costume was the wig, you wanted to make sure it looked realistic. You DIY Harley bat leans against the wall near the front door. You were determined you and Rafayel would win the costume contest.
You cover Rafayel’s face in the white paint and add black eye shadow all around his eyes. You’ve always wanted to put makeup on him, but he would never let you. When he said you could pick the costume for Halloween you knew exactly what you were going to pick. You just didn’t think he would commit so fully.
“You’ll have to draw on the face tattoos. You’re way better at that than I am.” Rafayel chuckles. “Oh, he laughs! He must be feeling so much better!” You tease. Rafayel’s smile instantly drops.
“No. I’m angry. I look ridiculous.” You give him a soft kiss, which makes his pout disappear once again.
“You look adorable. Don’t worry about your eyebrows okay? They’ll grow back.”
Once you finish applying the green hairspray, he looks spectacular. A very sexy Leto inspired Joker. How is he still so hot without eyebrows?
You and Rafayel win the costume contest at the party that night. But honestly, that wasn’t your favorite part of the evening. Helping Rafayel practice drawing on fake brows will remain one of your favorite memories for a long time.
Zayne:
“Can I look now?” Zayne stands in the bedroom with his hands over his eyes. You hear his foot tapping, he’s so impatient tonight, it’s adorable.
“One second! Oh shoot…” You struggle to reach the zipper on the back of your costume. The red, white and blue spandex leotard fits you like a glove and you’re excited to see Zayne’s reaction. You’re already giddy with excitement just looking at Zayne’s costume.
You knew Zayne wouldn’t be comfortable in a crazy costume. Especially at the hospital's annual Halloween party. He would still want to be professional around his colleagues. So you went searching Pinterest for a costume that he would be comfortable in, but would have a pairing that you could have fun with.
“Okay, I might need your help with this… Can you keep your eyes closed and help me zip this up?” Zayne chuckles and reaches out his hands, eyes still closed.
He still wore his glasses, which matched the costume perfectly. A white dress shirt unbuttoned half-way to show off a Superman t-shirt underneath, his dark dress pants held up with suspenders and you made him change into converse instead of dress shoes. He always wore dress shoes and suits, tonight he should be comfy.
You walk up to him and turn around, backing up until his hands graze your shoulder. You shiver as his hands slowly feel their way down to the edges of your costume. He finds the zipper and gently tugs it upwards. It closes easily and you turn around, taking his hands in yours you kiss his knuckles.
“So, now can I look?” You look up at Zayne and giggle.
“I have to put on the accessories, but I guess… you can go ahead and look.” You drop his hands and put your hands on your hips, striking a confident pose.
Zayne opens his eyes and his ears immediately turn red as he looks over your costume. The Wonder Woman leotard fits you perfectly, showing off your toned physique. The fishnet tights you opted for making you feel sexy and confident. You picked flat boots instead of heels because you knew you’d be dancing and didn’t want Zayne to have to carry you home… like he did after the hospital’s charity ball over the summer. You’re looking in the mirror, securing the head piece, when Zayne comes up behind you. He places his hands on your hips.
“You look… amazing.” You smile, now your ears are turning red. “Are you sure you want to go to the party?”
You’re surprised at his question. While he isn’t much of a party person, he loves holidays and wants you to have fun, even if it means dragging him to parties. You start to understand once you turn to face him. His cheeks are red to match his ears and his hands remain on your hips. He pulls you closer.
“Zayyyyne. Are you wanting to keep me all to yourself?” He doesn’t say anything, instead he bends down and places a tender kiss to your lips.
“Maybe.” He pulls back just enough to stare down at you with his glittering green eyes.
“How about we leave early? Then you can have me all to yourself the rest of the night.” Zayne pulls you into a hug and sighs softly.
“Fine. But I can’t promise I won’t try to pick you up and carry you away.”
You place the back of your hand against your forehead dramatically. Holding onto one of Zayne’s suspenders with the other.
“Oh Superman, rescue me from all this social interaction!” Zayne pinches the bridge of his nose, but his smile remains.
“You don’t need anyone to rescue you. You’re a real life Wonder Woman. Stronger than anyone I know.”
Sylus:
“You’re not going to give me a hint?” Sylus has been calling you everyday this week asking for details or hints to what you’ve picked for this year's Halloween costume.
“NO! You’ll find out tomorrow night.” You’re glad Sylus isn’t here, he’d probably convince you to tell him. Showering you with kisses until you caved.
“I heard Luke and Kieran whispering about a costume earlier. Please don’t tell me…” He doesn’t get a chance to finish speaking before you are giggling non-stop.
“Luke and Kieran are helping me. But I gave them strict instructions not to tell you anything.”
“You really think they won’t tell me? I’m their boss.” His voice is sarcastic, but you can hear his footsteps picking up pace. He’s hunting them down, you’re sure of it.
“To be honest, I think they’re more afraid of me.” Sylus laughs.
“Let’s test your theory.”
“No! Sylus don’t!! Please?” You beg.
“Fine. I won’t ask them. I’ll see you tomorrow night, kitten.” With that, he hangs up. You stare at your costume hanging on the door of your closet. You smile, trying to suppress your excitement for your first Halloween party with Sylus.
The next night you arrive at the Onychinus base early. Luke and Kieran show you Sylus’ costume and you squeal with excitement. You give them a quick hug before finding a spare room to get into your costume. Once you’re ready, you sneak down the hallway and knock on Sylus’ bedroom door.
“Come in.” You open the door slowly to reveal Sylus sitting in his armchair in the corner, a book in his hand. He lowers the book to look at you and you have to hold your breath to avoid laughing at his shocked reaction.
The leather body suit was a nightmare to slip on, but damn did you look good in it. The zipper along the chest unzipped just enough to let some of the October air keep you cool. The matching gloves have little claws attached to the fingers, not too sharp, but sharp enough to truly make you feel like a cat. Your black high heel boots strapped all the way up the ankle to keep you stable all evening. Your headband with cat ears pull back your long waves. Your ruby red lips curve into a smile as you watch Sylus eyeing you.
“You really took my little nickname for you seriously didn’t you, kitten?” Sylus stands and walks over to you. You reach out your hand and he takes it.
Once you have secured his hand, you tug him to the door and down the hall.
“Aha… where are we going?” Sylus laughs and follows you without hesitation.
You crack open his office door and peek inside. Laughing at the sight before you, before closing the door and turning to Sylus.
“Close your eyes.” Sylus chuckles and obeys. You open the door fully and gently lead him into the room. You let go of his hand to grab his arms to position him correctly.
“Okay, open.” You stand back and cover your mouth in anticipation. Sylus opens his eyes and is stunned, unable to speak, trying to comprehend what he’s seeing.
Luke and Kieran stand before him. Luke dressed in green ripped jeans, green converse, he has his torso painted green and fake ivy vines wrapped around his arms and some of his chest and stomach. His ginger hair an even brighter shade of red against the green paint spread across his face. Kieran is dressed in half red, half blue jeans, a studded belt hugs his hips, he has a matching half red and blue jacket unzipped to show his bare torso. His ginger locks lightly colored with hints of bright red and blue. Red and blue eye shadow are swept across his eyelids as well. He drapes his arms over the baseball bat that rests on his shoulders behind his head.
“Happy Halloween!” The pair say in unison before parting to show Sylus’ costume placed on a mannequin behind them.
It has to be the most accurate Batman costume Sylus has ever seen. Now that charge from the costume store makes more sense. He was wondering what costume could POSSIBLY cost so much. It’s impressive really. He turns to smile at you.
“Batman and Catwoman?”
“And Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn!” Luke says enthusiastically. Sylus chuckles and moves closer to examine the costume.
“What do you think?” You anxiously pick at the fake claws attached to your gloves. You worry he might hate the idea. Sylus walks over to you, pulls you in by the waist and places a kiss to your forehead.
“I love it. It’ll be fun to play hero for the night.” You hug Sylus tightly around the waist before he pulls away, ushering you to the door so he can get into costume.
Sylus looks so damn good dressed up as Batman. His ruby eyes shimmering behind the mask, the muscles on the costume look almost identical to his and the cape… Sylus won’t admit it, but he has been fluttering that cape all night. Standing next to Sylus, the Catwoman to his Batman, you feel like you can take on anything the universe throws at you.
(I would also die over art of Luke & Kieran as gender-bent Poison Ivy & Harley Quinn... Just sayin...)
Thank you for reading!!

I got a copy of Erdoes and Ortiz's American Indian Myths and Legends (1984) for Christmas and it is fascinating to me how various Native American tales portray romance between humans and non-humans. Especially compared to the European takes on that motif, which usually center on the relationship being doomed from the start, because humans belong only with humans. But this does not seem to be the default in the Native American tales in this collection!
There was one story which did portray the relationship as doomed (Tolowim woman and butterfly man, Maidu) and one where a human woman was taken against her will and gladly rescued by her husband (The stolen wife, Tewa). But there is also a tale where a wife is willingly taken by a great buffalo and when her human husband steals her back and kills White Buffalo Chief, she mourns him so that her jealous husband kills her (Apache chief punishes his wife, Tiwa).
That last tale, while tragic, already goes out of its way to show that the woman was happy with the powerful buffalo, and there are four stories in the collection that make a point of ending in happiness:
The industrious daughter who wouldn't marry (Cochiti)
A beautiful young woman who is a master at making beautiful garments spurns all her human suitors, until it is widely known that she doesn't care for young men. Coyote hears of this and goes to court her, dressed in his finest clothes. He does not offer her any gifts, but he dances very well and he brings a branch of blackcurrants, which are her favourite. She is pleased with him, so she takes him home, sleeps with him, and gives birth to two little coyotes. Her parents are dismayed and the other people turn away from her, but Coyote brings her to his home under the ground. There he has all kinds of clothes just as fine as the ones she makes, and she lives there happily with him ever after.
The Serpent of the Sea (Zuni)
The beautiful daughter of the priest-chief of the village Home of the Eagles cannot abide dust or dirt. Every day she spends almost all her time bathing in the sacred spring of the Serpent of the Sea and this angers him. He changes himself into a beautiful baby boy and she finds him and takes him home to care for him. As soon as she falls asleep the Serpent takes his true form again, coiling himself all around the maiden and all around the room. In the morning the whole household panics, but the girl’s father understands what happened and begs the Serpent to let his daughter return to her family once more, even though she now belongs to him. The Serpent moves enough to release her, finally waking her. She is very frightened, but after four days of ceremonies she bids her family goodbye and goes with the Serpent. As they travel the Serpent takes the shape of a beautiful young man, and speaks in a kinder and kinder voice, until she dares to look at him. Startled she asks him where the terrifying creature has gone. He explains that he is the serpent, but that he loves her, and that if she will consent to come and stay with him they will live and love each other forever in the Waters of the World. The maiden goes with him, forgetting her sadness and forgetting her family, and lived with him ever after.
The man who married the moon (Isleta Pueblo)
The great leader, weaver, and medicine man Nah-chu-rú-chu (the bluish light of dawn) got tired of all the young women trying to win his affection. He proclaimed that he would marry the girl who could grind corn meal so fine that it would stick to his pearl water dipper. The only woman who could do it was the Moon, who was an Isleta maiden before she went to live into the sky. He marries her and loves his moon-wife above all things. Two sisters, the Yellow Corn Maiden, are so jealous that they persuade the moon to admire her reflection in the water of the well, and push her in to drown her. The chief mourns so deeply that it no longer rains and all the crops begin dying, until they bring him a mysterious flower from a mound in the forest where his wife disappeared. He performs a sacred ritual and the moon is brought back to life. The corn maidens are changed into helpful, gentle snakes as punishment, and the moon lives happily with her husband.
The woman who married a merman (Coos)
A girl who refuses all her suitors and goes swimming in the creek every day becomes pregnant without understanding how. She gives birth to a baby that always cries unless it is left outside, where someone brings it seal meat to eat. The young mother watches over her baby and at night is approached by a man who says he is her husband and promises she will be safe if she goes with him. The merman takes his wife and child to the bottom of the sea, where many people lived. Her husband was one of the five sons of the village chief and the couple lived there happy and satisfied. She goes to her relatives once to get arrows for her little boy to play with, and once to visit her brothers. The second time they see her shoulders are turning dark and scaly like those of a sea serpent. She never returned again, but sea serpents came into their harbour, and every summer and winter they would send a whale ashore, a gift to their kinsmen above the sea.
Erdoes and Ortiz even draw a parallel between the tale of the Serpent of the Sea and Beauty and the Beast, but I rather love the girl running off with the Coyote and "the woman who married a merman" is such a lovely counterpoint to the selkie and mermaid stories I grew up with. I'm really happy with this book~
#I'm sure I'm missing lots of nuance and details in my synopsis#but this book is pleasant to read and the tales were clearly written with care#so I really recommend going to read these for yourself if they sound like your thing#American Indian Myths and Legends#native american folklore#laura babbles

First conceived in the ‘50s, Monterey’s Christmas Angels were fashioned at the request of residents looking for decorations original to the city that strayed away from growing commercialism of the holiday season. In response, a volunteer committee with the city commissioned then local artist Erica Franke to create 88 handcrafted angels for public display. She was paid $12 apiece.
For her original 1956 angels, Franke drew inspiration from local Hispanic heritage of the area and faces of angels in early New Mexico mission paintings, which priests (or “santos”) used to teach Christianity to Native Americans, according to a 1981 issue of The Sunday Peninsula Herald.
Franke is quoted in the report explaining that it was “the faces of the angels and madonnas by Indian artists in New Mexico churches, principally” that gave her the idea for the Monterey angels. Her vision translated into a set of unique seraphs draped in design, with skin tawny and expressions soft.
these fuckin angels mean so much to me! I'm so annoyed i can't find photos of the awesome ones, the ones that are playing crazy fuck off instruments that you would never see an angel using. Seriously these ones in the photos are not wat i consider the "good" ones, the fucking crazy ladys with the wild colored wings and dresses (and no i don't mean those ones from the 70s that look like black light poster art, the same artist made those tho)
Whats really sad is when i was a baby there were so many of these, but each year less and less get put up because they're getting old and damaged :(
the good news is that the city isn't throwing them out, they're being kept in storage and might end up in a special museum one day :)
I love these angels so much, I have two cards (can't find 'em right now) with some good ones on them, but I want some real merch! Can't believe they don't make some cool ornaments/wooden figurines/shirts or anything with these designs!
If I had fuck off money I'd commission an artist to go through the archives and recreate fresh new identical ones for the city!

how would you rank the different beatles couples wedding looks?
Now this looks like a job for me
9. John and Cyn (1962)
I feel a little bad ranking them this low because the four of them had about two shillings to rub together between themselves, but this was just not a great effort. John appears to be wearing A Suit. Perhaps with a tie of some sort. Paul and George's fits look kind of similar, which makes me think he got married in his Beatles suit. I guess that was an appropriate start to their marriage.
Cynthia's having a classic Cher Horowitz faux Chanel suit moment. It's not a bad look, but it's literally something you would see in Zara. There's a pneumatic drill in the background. Cyn nearly got married to George instead. What a world that would be.
8. Paul and Heather (2002)
Did you know this was one of the most expensive weddings in history? It cost 3.6 million. They rented a castle in Co. Monaghan. There were fireworks. Did you know that Heather Mills wore the most 1980s wedding dress known to man in 1989? These are the things I was forced to find out while researching this look.
I originally had this a bit higher. I didn't want to rank it low just Because Heather. But the more I look at this dress, the more I hate it. She's doing the Kate Midleton lace sleeves -- which, in fairness, was pretty forward-thinking in 2002 -- but then the lace just goes over the whole outfit, which has the effect of making everything look very same-y. Barbie in A Christmas Carol executed this idea way better.
I don't have many objections to Paul's outfit. He wore a vest. That's effort. And he matched his tie to the flowers. Like job done, basically. My only real issue here is the lack of vision. If I was Paul McCartney in 2002 and a knight of the British Empire or whatever, and I'm getting married in a castle -- I'd have a sassy little sword with me. Perhaps even just to cut the cake. Come on.
7. Paul and Linda (1969)
Don't let the cuteness of the pictures distract you from the fact that they're both dressed like they have a meeting with Harry from accounting in an hour. Paul appears to have shown the barber a picture of the guy from The Peep Show. She married him when his hair looked like that. That's love.
It's possible that Linda is wearing a non-business casual outfit under the trench. We'll never know. The problem is that these people refused to get married any time outside of the cold months. It's weird how this is the one Indian thing they all adopted.
The kid is a fun accessory. I enjoy how she and Linda appear to be matching trenches.
6. Maureen and Ringo (1965)
I enjoy how Cyn, John, and George seem to be haunting the proceedings in the second picture.
Originally, I had this lower, but you know what? I like Maureen's little Jackie O suit with the Peter Pan collar, and I love that hair accessory she has over her bun with the bow. Ringo is fine, even if he does look like he's wearing his Dad's jacket. I really don't think it's supposed to fit like that. You're Ringo Starr and this is your wedding, you couldn't get it tailored? Or just buy one that fits better?
And once again: she married him when his hair looked like that.
5. [ERROR] (1978)
I saw a lot of sources saying the first pic is George and Olivia. It is not. The man looks a bit like George, but the woman looks nothing like Olivia. The second picture, I think, is from George and Olivia's wedding, and yes, that is the best quality I could find. I think George has the same '70s open-collar suit thing as the man in the fake picture, but that's about all I can tell. Olivia could literally be wearing a rug for all I can see about her outfit. Since this is Schroedinger's Beatle wedding look -- neither good nor bad since I Literally Can't See It -- it goes right in the middle.
I can't believe they wanted to have a small personal wedding. It's like they weren't even thinking about all the Tumblrinas.
4. Paul and Nancy (2011)
Nancy Shevall's royal wedding dress ft. Paul doing a classic Paul pose.
Nancy's wearing a Stella McCartney dress -- cute -- inspired by Wallis Simpson of all people, which is kind of wild as royal wedding inspiration goes, but I like it. It's tasteful while still being unconventional.
Paul also looks great. The longer hair suits him much better. Nancy Shevall is a businesswoman, and it shows. She did not marry a man with bad hair.
3. George and Pattie (1966)
Mary Quant herself personally designed George's coat. That's how serious this is.
It's a strange occurrence because this is one of the few times that `I feel more let down by the woman than the man. Don't get me wrong, Pattie looks great. Her hair's great. Makeup: great. The tights? The coat? Fantastic. But the dress itself does look like something I wore to my friend's birthday party when I was eight. Do better.
Not featured: Paul McCartney being out of his gourd during the proceedings. Sorry, Paul. This ain't about him.
2. Ringo and Barbara (1981)
Unghhh they look so good. Sorry there's no joke.
Barbara's dress is so lovely and romantic -- I think it might be a top and a skirt, actually? Anyway, love the neckline, love the sleeves, love the bell skirt. The flowers tucked in at the waist? The lace? That's how you do lace, Heather! And Ringo. He got his hair cut by someone who actually likes him this time, and he's wearing a jacket that fits! That's how you know he was serious about it, and it shows -- forty-two years later. Very fond of the star pin on his lapel.
What really puts this look over a lot of the others is I do feel like they coordinated, her in all white and him in all black. And they one-upped both John and Paul by having not just one, but two kids. Beat that, McLennon.
John and Yoko (1969)
You might've had a cute wedding look, a great wedding look, even, but did your wedding create enduring pop-cultural tropes? Don't think so.

Diyas
A Christmas themed excerpt for @noblehouseofgay 25 Days of Jegulus. Day 17 - Candles
Diyas are small oil lamps with a cotton wick often used in South Asia during worship and religious ceremonies and are lit during the festival of Diwali to symbolize prosperity in the New Year.
James POV, fifth year/fourth year for Regulus Rating: Teen 576 words
There was a knock on the door and James said, “Eṉṉa?”
Effie poked her head round the door. “It is ready.”
James had to admit, he was a bit giddy. It was not often his parents surprised him like they used to when he was a child. Abandoning their pie plates on the floor, James and Regulus hurried to the door.
The hall was dark and there were small flickering diyas all along the perimeter of the floor. James sucked in an excited breath. He was never home during Diwali, as it was celebrated at the end of October and beginning of November. In the past, they had gone to Madurai to celebrate James’ favorite Indian festival, the Festival of Lights.
James walked to the living room and saw the furniture had been cleared away leaving a large open space for a huge rangoli display, a beautiful lotus with ample geometric designs. There were diyas all over the floor, as part of the rangoli and on the few remaining surfaces in the room.
“It is for Regulus,” said Effie. Regulus was blinking very quickly and rubbed his nose. James grabbed his hand.
“Thank you,” Regulus whispered.
“Traditionally, rangoli is done outside the entrance to a house and represents happiness, positivity, and liveliness. It welcomes the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck.”
Effie went to stand before Regulus and held out her hands. James let Regulus’ hand drop and watched his mother hold both of his boyfriend’s hands in hers. She was dressed in a deep purple sari, which had intricate gold embroidery on it.
“Regulus, you are part of this family, as long as you want it. James loves you, and we love you.”
James looked over and watched a tear track down Regulus’ cheek. Regulus couldn’t wipe it away as Effie was still holding both his hands.
“You don’t even know me,” he whispered.
“We know you. Sirius talks about growing up with you and James tells us about spending time with you at Hogwarts. We have had you in our home for five days now. I have watched James grow and mature as he has dated you. And to see the two of you together, you light each other up. So we wanted to give you some light of our own.”
Regulus didn’t say anything—just nodded—tears still flowing down his cheeks. Effie pulled him into a tight hug. James watched Regulus wipe at his cheeks over his Am’mā’s shoulders.
Monty also wanted to hug Regulus, which Regulus permitted.
“Thank you for being such a light in our son’s life,” said Monty as he released Regulus. And James caught his father’s eye, smiling shyly.
They all sat down and soaked up the warmth from the tiny flickering lanterns, while James and Regulus exclaimed in awe over the intricate workmanship of the rangoli lotus.
“Magic helps,” laughed Effie. “When I was a girl, my Am’mā made us daughters do it by hand until we were well into our school years. But I simply do not have that kind of time.”
“It is breathtaking, Effie,” said Regulus. “Can you leave it?”
Effie gave a sad smile, “It is only for tonight love. The short lived joys always leave the greatest impression. Because we know they are going to fade, our minds remember more of the details. Then we can keep coming back to the memory.”
“I will remember this forever,” Regulus said softly.

Kaya’aton’my, AKA Kaya, was the 2nd girl to come out after I’d lost interest, so I never had her and I didn’t read her books. She’s a Nimiipuu (Nez Perce) girl in the 1760s, after European contact (Kaya has horses and her grandmother had smallpox scars on her face) but prior to colonization. Kaya was the first major departure from the previous six-book formula, but given that she wouldn’t have things like school, birthdays, and Christmas, of course she’s gonna need a different structure.
I’ve read a few different reactions to her release. For the most part, she was praised for showing pre-colonial Native society, and demonstrating that American history goes way back further than 1776. However, some people criticized it for perpetuating the myth of Native Americans being a relic of the past. The obvious answer would be to make another Native doll who has a more modern setting (1970s American Indian Movement would be FUCKING AMAZING), but I think they addressed the issue pretty well with the inclusion of modern powwow dresses.
Now, I don’t know nearly enough about Native fashion to be able to really critique and add context to Kaya’s dresses and accessories, but I do know that the company went to great lengths to make Kaya as authentic as possible. They even went as far as creating a new face mold, making Kaya the first girl to smile without exposing her teeth because in traditional Nimiipuu culture, it’s considered rude and aggressive.

"DON'T YOU HAVE ANY GIFTS FOR ME?"
This is one of the cutest stories I've ever written (I've been writing since 2018). The reason I wrote it this way is probably because I'm ovulating. When I'm like this, I have no middle ground: I either write pure soft stuff or pure smut stories.
I hope you like it!
Christmas had officially begun at the X-Mansion. Children ran through the halls with Santa hats on their heads, while soft Christmas music came from Roge's Bluetooth speaker, carefully placed over the fireplace in the living room.
Logan wasn't too fond of the holiday. For him, it was a waste of time, which brought back memories and experiences that he didn't want to relive. He would never admit it out loud, but seeing all those little ones enjoying their gifts with other children, laughing and singing, made his heart ache with sadness and joy in equal parts.
Sadness because when he was their age he didn't have any of that, parents, friends, a family that loved him. And joy because those children had everything he never had.
He thought that was reason enough to feel a little less grumpy, he even made an effort to smile a little, so that the children wouldn't think that he was always angry with the world, even on Christmas Eve.
That was when he saw you.
You walked into the little ones with a mountain of presents, a huge smile on your face.
The kids practically jumped at you to take the boxes out of your hands, giggling nervously to see what was behind the colorful packaging.
“Calm down, kids, there are presents for everyone!” you said, handing three large packages to the girl closest to you.
“Libby” remembered her name Logan. She was in her history class, she was one of her best students. She started jumping up and down with joy when you gave her her presents.
“Thank you, Miss Snow!” she replied excitedly, sitting on the carpet in an Indian position. “What is it?”
“I don’t know,” you smiled at the girl, while ruffling her hair. “Why don’t you find out?”
Libby looked at you with her huge brown eyes and quickly opened the packages. You had bought her some skates, a pair of books, and some noise-cancelling headphones. Because of her autism, Libby was prone to getting overstimulated by loud or repetitive sounds, so that gift, Logan thought, had been very sweet of you.
-I love it! - the girl said, hugging you tightly - Thank you very much, Miss Snow!
-We're not in class now, Libby, you know you can call me Emma
-Okay - the girl nodded before getting up to go show the gifts to her friends -
Logan was leaning against the kitchen wall, watching your every move. You felt a gaze on you and you raised your head, meeting his expressive green eyes.
He could hear your heart beating wildly in your chest. It was clear that his presence accepted you more than you were willing to admit. Without thinking too much, he slowly approached where you were, the smell of leather and tobacco reached your nostrils, just as the smell of your mentholated shampoo reached his.
He watched you for a moment, your red dress and matching Santa hat making you look young and childish in a way that drove him crazy. You had finished the look with a pair of red converse as well, which made him smile. He knew how much you hated heels ever since you sprained your ankle last year because of a bet with Ororo.
-Hi Logan – you said, your voice coming out shriller than you intended, but you couldn't help it, his presence alone made you nervous-
-Hi Em – he greeted with a smile, only he called you that way – it was very nice what you did for Libby – he nodded towards her –
-She deserves it – you answered looking away at her – she's an exceptional girl
-She is – he seconded – you look beautiful tonight
-Thank you – you answered noticing how you blushed –
You weren't good at accepting compliments, and even less if they came from him
-Don't you have any gifts for me? -he questioned raising an eyebrow, you shifted your weight from one foot to the other nervously-
-I only had gifts for the kids, Logan, I… -you murmured embarrassed, he shook his head-
-Calm down princess, it was a joke -he smiled watching you- seeing you in a dress is the best gift you could have given me
-Logan! -you squealed embarrassed, noticing how your cheeks were getting hotter, he laughed, a hoarse laugh that made your skin crawl-
-I know that dresses are not your favorite item of clothing -his smile grew wider- I'm glad you decided to wear one today-
-I did it for them -he pointed at the kids- not for you-
-Whatever you say, honey -he murmured pulling you towards him to leave a soft kiss on your lips-
